Group Therapy & Mindfulness Training

Dr. V. teaches a number of different mindfulness groups, in-person as well as via telephone/web, for those struggling with anxiety or depression, major physical health issues, general emotional distress, and other issues.  If you are interested in learning more or enrolling in one of the groups listed below please contact us. If you are interested in a group that has not yet been scheduled, please get in touch as the start date will be scheduled once there is enough interest. 


Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy - Telephone (MBCT-T)

  • To Register or for more information: Please send us a message with ‘MBCT-T Sept 2019’ in the subject line. Note that she will be out of town until Monday 7/15/2019 and will begin enrolling participants when she returns.

  • Duration: 1 hour weekly for 8 weeks

  • Dates: Wednesdays - 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, (skip 10/9 for Yom Kippur), 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6

  • Fee: $350

  • Course Details:

    • This is an adapted version of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) which has been well validated as an effective treatment to prevent depression relapse, reduce depressive and anxiety and symptoms, improve emotion and attention regulation skills, and increase well-being.

    • You will learn mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral skills for managing emotional distress, especially depression and anxiety.

    • You will participate in in-class exercises and brief group discussion.

    • You will complete daily home practice (approximately 15 min per day) of mindfulness & cognitive-behavioral exercises and complete worksheets to support learning.

  • This course might be appropriate for you if you are:

    • struggling with anxiety or depression or are at risk for relapse.

    • interested in learning mindfulness and CBT skills for managing emotional distress and improving well-being.

    • willing to invest time and effort daily to learn new skills to improve mood and well-being.

  • This course might not be appropriate for you if you are:

    • currently experiencing a major depressive episode.

      • exceptions may be made for individuals referred by their individual therapist who expects to continue the therapeutic relationship for the duration of this group.

    • experiencing suicidal or self-harm thoughts or urges.

    • experiencing cognitive impairment.

    • unwilling or unable to do home practice.

  • Other details:

    • You must be able to join the call from a private/quiet space.

    • You must have reliable phone or internet connection if using a computer to call in.


Mindfulness Training for Body Dissatisfaction - telephone based group

  • Start Date: TBD

  • Duration: 1 hour weekly for 4 weeks.

  • Location: Phone/Web

  • Who should participate:

    • Anyone who experiences mild to moderate distress related to the body whether related to weight, appearance, or functioning, and is willing to invest time and effort daily to reduce distress.

  • Note: This is not a therapy group so individuals with eating disorders or body dysmorphic disorder may want to consider engaging in treatment instead.


Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) - Breast Cancer - in-person group

  • Start Date: TBD

  • Duration: 2 hours weekly for 8 weeks.

  • Location: TBD

  • Who should participate:

    • Women who have completed treatment for breast cancer and are currently in recovery, and who are willing to invest time and effort daily to learn new skills to improve mood and well-being.


Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) - People of Color - in-person group

  • Duration: 2 hours weekly for 8 weeks

  • Who should participate:

    • Anyone identifying as a person of color struggling with anxiety or depression, and willing to invest time and effort daily to learn new skills to improve mood and well-being.
